What is Coenzyme Q10?

 

CoQ10, AKA Coenzyme Q10, is a natural antioxidant found in the body. CoQ10 is a lipophilic antioxidant. Skin Surface Lipids (SSL) are a mixture of sebum that act as an outermost protective layer against oxidative damage. CoQ10 and Vitamin E are the only known lipophilic antioxidants in SSL that effectively enhance defence.

Benefits of Squalene

 

Squalene is a hydrocarbon compound. It has strong moisturizing, barrier repairs and keratin-softening effects. It also serves as a protective agent against lipid peroxidation after UV damage. Squalene is known as a sacrificial antioxidant, as it itself oxidizes under UV radiation to protect the skin. Squalene oxidizes more easily compared to other lipids.

Free radicals can increase in number and activity due to oxidative metabolism or UV damage. One of the links to ageing is the free radical damage to fibroblasts caused by UV radiation. Fibroblasts produce collagen. If these cells are damaged, collagen gradually diminishes. The formula contains various plant antioxidant enzymes that aim to repair damaged fibroblasts by neutralising free radicals, thereby allowing collagen to regenerate. Kakadu plum and Davidson plum contain an abundance of natural Vitamin C, which directly activates collagen regeneration capabilities.
